The Gaze

I counted sheets of red paper out loud while making direct eye contact with individual audience members. The counting stopped when the participant looked away or when I reached 9. Then, I shredded that person’s sheets. Once in a while when there were enough shreds in the two piles, I pushed the shreds around with my hands outwards to create space and a border around me.
